Things that are free
I want to give you my book
A freakishly warm fall day; texting photos of birds to your friends; foraging and eating riverbank grapes; the bluest skies; wondering if what you ate was a riverbank grape or just something that looked like a riverbank grape; learning that the very poisonous moonseed looks scarily similar; shots of apple vodka on Rosh Hashanah from the local rabbi; wondering if you are ill from the vodka or because you ate a poisonous seed; texting your friends a photo of what might be your final moments; pressing down on your veins to watch the blood disappear and releasing your grasp to watch it come back; breathing deeply; breathing again; enjoying every breath. Walking, running, collapsing on the couch. Walnuts and acorns and sticks falling from the sky in this wind. Getting free books in the mail unsolicited from publishers because you covered one of their books once. And getting a free book in the mail because you entered a giveaway.
Yes, that’s right, today I’m announcing a giveaway! A lovely friend donated six copies of my debut novel, The Unmapping, for this purpose and so one of these books, hopefully, is for you!
Here are the many ways to enter—you can do multiple and receive multiple entries!
Substack:
Subscribe to my Substack (everyone on this list already follows me SO that means you get a free entry for being here—good job! Congrats! You did it!)
Get someone new to subscribe to this Substack (if they write that you referred them in the comments, you will BOTH get an entry)

Not on social media, but have another way you can spread the news about my book? Go for it! And send me a message.
Also, a seventh lucky winner will receive the esteemed American Birkebeiner: The Nation’s Greatest Ski Marathon, because I received it unsolicited in the mail and don’t want it to go to waste.
That’s all for now. I want to give you my book!

PS: I’ll be talking about The Unmapping on YouTube live shortly (7pm ET / 6pm CT) with the publisher, Marines Alvarez. There is a new book club guide to the book and we’ll be talking about some of the questions (without spoilers). Tune in here:
